I have the opportunity to participate in this exhibition. I sent my Breccia cup to the show and I was invited to write a text for the catalog.

It's a short text in an informal writing of my thought. Here it is:

My take on a coffee cup

My first coffee bar experience came when I was visiting friends in Italy during the days of the Lira. What a quick service this was, I thought. You walk in, say a word, hand over a banknote with a picture of Marie Montessori to the barista and get a small receipt. After that, a very small cup of drink is given, and the receipt is torn in one corner. You drink it in no time while talking to a stranger for a few words then walk away. However, you could choose to sit at a table while drinking and talking endlessly to a friend. Of course, that always takes longer than intended. This means that this beverage can be consumed very quickly or very slowly. To create a drinking vessel for it is thus very complex and challenging.  

I have always been interested in the sense of time and all sorts of temporal experiences. In this case, a coffee cup becomes an evidence of time. It announces the passage of time by its haptic and tactile interaction with the drinker. There’s hardly any room for the improvement in terms of the function of the coffee cup. Throughout history, people have thought of all the cups under the sun. The reason we, the makers, are still seeking yet another coffee cup is probably because we need to ponder and communicate such temporal experiences that cannot be explained by words. We choose to do that through the making of these simple drinking vessels.

ว่าด้วยเรื่องถ้วยถ้วย 

ประสบการณ์การไปบาร์กาแฟของข้าพเจ้าเกิดขึ้นเป็นครั้งแรกเมื่อไปเยี่ยมเพื่อนที่อิตาลีตั้งแต่สมัยที่ยังใช้เงินเป็นลีร์ นี่ช่างเป็นกระบวนการการรับบริการที่รวบรัดรวดเร็วอะไรเช่นนี้ข้าพเจ้าคิด คุณเดินเข้าไป พูดหนึ่งคำ ยื่นธนบัตรที่มีรูป มารี มอนเตสซอรี ให้แก่บาริสต้า ได้รับใบเสร็จใบเล็กๆมา หลังจากนั้นก็จะได้รับเครื่องดื่มถ้วยเล็กมากและใบเสร็จจะถูกฉีกที่มุมหนึ่ง คุณดื่มเครื่องดื่มนั้นแป๊บเดียวก็หมด บางทีก็คุยกับคนแปลกหน้าสักคำแล้วเดินจากไป ในทางตรงกันข้ามบางทีเราก็เลือกที่จะนั่งที่โต๊ะและใช้เวลาเรื่อยเอื่อยพูดคุยกับเพื่อน บ่อยครั้งก็ใช้เวลาไปนานกว่าที่ตั้งใจไว้ในตอนแรก นี่แปลได้ว่ากาแฟนั้นอาจจะถูกเสพย์ได้อย่างเร็วมากหรืออย่างช้ามากก็ได้ ทำให้มันเป็นเรื่องน่าสนใจอย่างยิ่งโดยสำหรับคนที่จะสร้างสรรค์ภาชนะเพื่อใช้ในกิจกรรมนี้  

ข้าพเจ้าสนใจในเรื่องเกี่ยวกับเวลาและประสบการณ์ด้านเวลาแบบนี้เสมอๆ ในกรณีนี้ถ้วยกาแฟทำหน้าที่เป็นสื่อกลางสำหรับการรับประสบการณ์อันแสนนามธรรมที่มาจากการรับรู้การเคลื่อนผ่านของเวลา ผ่านทั้งความเป็นวัตถุและสัมผัสที่ได้รับขณะดื่มกาแฟ  แน่นอนว่าการค้นคิดด้านการใช้งานสำหรับถ้วยกาแฟนั้นแทบจะไม่จำเป็นอีกต่อไปแล้ว มีคนคิดกันมาแล้วทุกรูปแบบในโลกนี้ แต่เหตุผลที่เรา, นักสร้างสรรค์, ยังคงแสวงหารูปแบบใหม่ๆของถ้วยกาแฟ น่าจะเป็นเพราะเรายังต้องการขบคิดและสื่อสารประสบการณ์นามธรรมที่ไม่อาจอธิบายได้ด้วยคำพูดเหล่านี้ผ่านทางภาชนะเครื่องดื่มธรรมดาๆใบหนึ่ง
